Stockholm 2016

Stockholm -The Crown of the Kingdom

I'm really interested in the Scandinavian countries. So I decided to visit Stockholm, the capital of Sweden for a long weekend in May 2016. The city was founded in 1252 by the Swedish statesman Birger Jarl.

At first, I visited the Stockholm City Hall (Stockholms Stadshus) in Kungsholmen district. It's the building of the Muncipal Council for the City and it houses conference rooms as well as ceremonial halls, because it's the venue of the Nobel Prize banquet.

The city's oldest section is Gamla Stan - the Old Town - located on the original small islands of the city's earliest settlements and still featuring the medieval street layout. There, I saw the large German Church (Tyska kyrkan), the Riddarhuset, Stockholms Palace (Kungliga slottet), the Riddarholmskyrkan (the oldest building in Stockholm) and the Storkyrkan. Since it was one week before the Eurovision Songcontest, I met many people from different European countries and there was a lot of music all around the city. Funnily, I also met a friend at the Mårten Trotzigs Gränd - the narrowest street in Stockholm. Before continuing the walking tour, I made a little break for eating a famous Swedish applepie with a hot chocolate at the Chokladkoppen.

The second day was a calm day, where I enjoyed the landscape at the Djurg
ården island with the visit of the Vasa Museum and Skansen. The Vasa museum displays the only almost fully intact 17th century ship, that has ever been salvaged. Skansen us the first open-air museum and zoo in Sweden. It was opened on 11th October 1891 by Artur Hazelius. After visiting Skansen, where I could see the cute reindeers and moose, I also made a promenade on the island and relaxed in the nature
