Norway 2017

Bergen og Flåm - Jeg elsker Norge!

After travelling to Oslo in 2006, I always had the dream to come back to Norway. Finally, I went back to Norway in February 2017. Norway is still my favourite country. And I love the beautiful nature there. When I arrived in Bergen, it was warmer than in Germany. I was quite impressed. Even if Bergen is just a small city, every building seems to be very special. Unfortunately, the famous Fish Market wasn't open in the winter period. But nevertheless, I enjoyed an amazing long weekend in Norway.

On the second day, I made a daily tour to Flåm and the Nærøyfjord. At first, I took a train from Bergen to Myrdal, followed by the train run on the Bergen Line to Flåm (with the famous Flåmsbana). The construction of the 20.2 km long railway line started in 1924 and was opened in 1940. The train stopped at the Kjofossen waterfall, which was frozen at this time. After arriving in Flåm, I hiked in the mountains, before the fjord tour to Gudvangen started. The Nærøyfjord is a branch of the large Sognefjord and has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2005.

Back in Bergen, I went around the city on the next day. At first, I walked around Bryggen, which is a series of Hanseatic commercial buildings lining the eastern side of the harbour. Bergen was founded around 1070 within the original boundaries of Bryggen - also known as Tyskebryggen. Since 1979, Bryggen has been on the UNESCO list for World Cultural Heritage sites.

Then, I visited Bergenhus Festning with the Rosenkrantz Tower, one of the oldest Norwegian castles located in the entrence to the harbour in Bergen. I also saw the Bergen Aquarium and then I took the Fløibanen from Vetrlidsallmenningen to the Mount Fløyen. The Fløyen is one of the seven city mountains and one of the city's most popular tourist attractions. The mountain is 399 m above sea level and it's possible to look over the Bergen city centre.
