Thailand 2014

Thailand - Let the adventure begin

In 2014, I started my first adventure! I wanted to get to know a new culture, so I decided to visit Southeast Asia. For my first flight to Asia, I decided to visit Thailand and Myanmar. When I arrived at Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok, my first impression was: "Why is it so unbelievable hot here?" Nevertheless, I really enjoyed the warm temperatures and tried to get used to it.

Sawasdee khrap Bangkok

Welcome in "Krung Thep Maha Nakhon Amon Rattanakosin Mahinthara Yutthaya Mahadilok Phop Noppharat Ratchathani Burirom Udom Ratchaniwet Maha Sathan Amon Phiman Awatan Sathit Sakkathattiya Witsanukam Prasit", which is the orignal name of the city Bangkok! The capital of Thailand - The Land of Smiles - is giving you an impression of a stressful and hectic life. But if you get used to the stressful life, you can also find nice places for relaxing. One of the most relaxing areas, I saw, was the Lumpini park.

The Lumpini park is a calm place in the heart of Bangkok, where many people go in the evening. They are riding the bike, go jogging or just relaxed on a bench - like I also did. You could get some new motivation and energy. It was the completely opposite side from the stressful rush hour on the streets. I really liked to stay here in the evening and talked with many Thai people to learn more about the Thai culture. I also learned a lot about the Buddhism, that's why I went to the temple area in Bangkok too. I visited Wat Arun, Wat Pho and The Grand Palace. It was an amazing feeling to see the Thai people praying to Buddha.

I also prayed and donated some "Lucky Money" for getting luck and success. You could also see, how important the religion is for the Buddhists. All the Buddha statues were in gold. The temples were magnificent. Therefore, it was really worthwile to go to Southeast Asia.

Hua-Hin - Between beaches and monkeys

Another beautiful aspect of staying in Thailand were the beaches. I stayed in Hua-Hin, around 200 km in the South of Bangkok. The water was very clear and luckily, there weren't too many people, so that it was calm and enjoyable. Close to the beach, there was a temple! I was surprised. This temple was quite different. Many monkeys were sitting on the streets. It was like, they were just waiting for the tourists. One of those monkeys stole my water bottle...So you should better take care of your stuff, while going around. But nevertheless, it was funny to see those cute little monkeys.

Ayutthaya - On the way to the temple ruins

After relaxing, it was time to learn more about the Thai history! Therefore, I went to Ayutthaya, the former capital of the Siamese Kingdom. The city is famous for the old temple ruins and the Ayutthaya Historical Park is part of the World Heritage Site

The most famous place is Wat Manhathat. Wat Manhathat was one of the most interesting places, I saw in Thailand, because it was an old and traditional temple ruin. It's also famous for the Buddha face inside the tree.

Before leaving Ayutthaya, I also saw the Floating Market of Ayutthaya. Unfortunately, it was too late to take a boat there, but at least, I could try some delicious local food and some fried bananas.

Khon Kaen - Family Life in the Northeast of Thailand

At the end of my Thailand travel, I visited the family of my Thai friend - in the Northeast of Thailand. After a six hours car driving, we arrived there. It was quite interesting to learn about the Thai family life and the Thai cuisine. I learned to cook some typical Thai food too. In addition, I could also learn some new Thai words, because my friends Thai family could only speak Thai. So I needed to communicate in Thai language too.
